John was born to Clifford and Alice Cope in Cleveland, Ohio in 1943. He worked as an auto mechanic for various companies over the last 55 years. He enjoyed anything that had wheels and an engine including cars, NASCAR, racing and attending swap meets and car shows. Most of all he loved having people around him, especially his family and, of course, his dogs.

John is survived by his loving wife, Cindy; children, Mark Cope, Doreen Cope, Kenny Cope and Chris Cope, all of Stevinson; mother, Alice Kurtz of Hilmar; brother, Mike Cope of Stevinson; and sister, Annie Large of Kansas City, Mo.

He was preceded in death by his father, Clifford Cope.
A funeral service will be held at 10 a.m. on Tuesday, Aug. 31 at Allen Mortuary, with burial to follow at Sunnyside Cemetery in Stevinson.
