Two stabbed in Winton

POSTED September 3, 2010 10:19 p.m.

Two men suffered multiple stab wounds when they were attacked by a group of suspected gang members in Winton, the Merced County Sheriff’s Department reported.

The attack was reported just after midnight Wednesday in Winton Park.

The two victims, a 27-year-old man and a 39-year-old man, told deputies they had been “jumped” by at least 12 gang members. The two men are brothers, said sheriff spokesman Deputy Tom MacKenzie.

The brothers both had stab wounds to their backs and upper torsos. They also had multiple bruises and swellings from the beating, MacKenzie said.

The victims said their attackers were yelling gang slurs at them while they beat and stabbed them.

The sheriff’s department said both victims were extremely un-cooperative with deputies when they were providing medical treatment and attempting to get info on the incident. The only information they would say is they were jumped by gang members, but couldn’t describe them, and said it was too dark to get any information on physical descriptions, MacKenzie said.

Both victims were air lifted to a Modesto area hospital where they were treated for their injuries. Both are expected to recover, although a medic at the scene said one or possible both could have had a punctured lung due to them having difficulty in breathing and stab wounds on their chests.

Anyone with information on the incident is asked to call the Merced Sheriff’s Office at 385-7472.
