Phony deputies try to get into house

POSTED July 21, 2009 11:27 p.m.
A man and a woman posing as Stanislaus County sheriff’s deputies tried to gain entrance into a Turlock residence, but fled when asked for identification.
The two showed up at a home in the 2600 block of Oxford Avenue around 11 a.m. Monday and said they were with the sheriff’s department.
The pair demanded to be let in, but the resident refused to comply until proper identification was shown, according to the Turlock Police Department.
The couple caused a verbal disturbance outside the front door, but eventually left the area in a blue Ford Taurus.
The sheriff’s department confirmed that the two individuals were not from their agency.
It is unknown why the two were trying to get into the house and the police department had no further description of them.
