Sheryl L. Parmley

September 1956 — July 2009

POSTED July 21, 2009 11:34 p.m.
Sheryl L. Parmley, 52, of McGill, Nev. passed away unexpectedly at home with her family by her side.
Sheryl was born in September of 1956 to Juanita and Joe Lair in Oakland, Calif. She was the seventh of 12 children. She moved to Hilmar in 1964, where she attended Elim Elementary. In 1970, they moved to Stevinson, Calif. Sheryl continued her education at Hilmar High. After high school, Sheryl was married to Alfred Parmley and together they moved to Yakima, Wash., where their first two children were born. They moved back to Stevinson in 1978, where their last three children were born.
Sheryl worked for the Livingston Head Start Program for several years.
In 1982, Sheryl and Alfred separated, in 1994, she found companionship, and began a lasting relationship with longtime friend, L.D. Crawford. In 2000, she and L.D. moved to McGill, where they settled in, and have lived for the last nine years. In this sleepy little town, Sheryl worked at various places within the community; she made many friends and was very well know within the McGill and Ely area.
Sheryl’s home is decorated with an eclectic collection of cows and pigs, from wall decors to stuffed animals and piggy banks. She loved to be out riding motorcycles, and her new pride and joy, a quad. Sheryl loved to be outdoors and enjoyed gardening. She worked very hard and took pride in that. She especially loved her yearly trip to California to spend time with her family. She enjoyed her time with her grandchildren, to whom she was lovingly known as Mee-Mah. Sheryl was very proud of her children, though she lived miles away from a majority of her family. She never stopped talking about them to her friends in Nevada. Her walls are adorned with a multitude of family photos. Sheryl also possessed a unique since of humor, that could be offensive if you didn’t know her, and those who did were blessed by her kindness, generosity and love.
Sheryl leaves behind by her companion, L.D. Crawford; children, Paul Parmley of Turlock, Angel Parmley of Turlock, David Parmley of McGill, Nev., Steven Parmley of Delhi and Jessica Parmley of Turlock; five stepchildren, Angela Havens of Rosewood, Ore., Leslie Higgens of Atwater, Larry Crawford of Carson City Nev., and Tim Crawford of Mariposa, Calif.; and 23 grandchildren.  She is also survived by siblings, Ruben Lair of Yakima, Wash., Deborah Lair of Delhi, Deniece Hoffman of Mariposa, Judy Hess of Green Forest, Ariz., and Deloras Yates of Denair.
Sheryl is preceded in death by siblings, Joe Lair, Carol Stroud, Kenneth Lair, Robert Lair and George Lair; her parents, Juanita and Joe Lair; and first husband, Alfred Parmley.
Visitation will be held from noon to 6 p.m. July 24 at Allen Mortuary. Funeral services will be held at 10 a.m. July 25 at Allen Mortuary, with burial to follow at Sunnyside Cemetery in Stevinson.
