Armed robbery along stretch of country road

POSTED November 6, 2010 12:20 a.m.

A Merced couple was robbed at gunpoint after visiting a bank Monday evening, according to the Merced County Sheriff’s Department.

Around 5:30 p.m. Monday the couple withdrew cash from an ATM at the Chase Bank on Olive Avenue in Merced. The couple was driving home along Santa Fe Road when they noticed a blue 1990s Honda trailing behind them, said sheriff spokesman Deputy Tom MacKenzie.

When the couple turned onto Avenue Two, the Honda passed them at the “S” bend and pulled in front of them, forcing them off the road, MacKenzie said.

Two suspects got out of the Honda and pointed handguns at the victims demanding their money. The man handed over his wallet and the suspects got back into their vehicle and drove off.

The suspects are described as African-American males, one wearing a black hooded sweater, in his early 20s, approximately 5 feet, 7 inches tall and weighing 180 pounds. The second suspect was wearing a blue/grey sweater, black pants and was in his mid-30s. He is about 5 feet, 8 inches tall, 220 pounds and had long black hair.

The blue Honda had no plates, but did have a dealer’s number sticker in the rear window. It also had body damage.

The suspects took an undisclosed amount of cash, along with personal items from the victim’s wallet. Anyone with information is asked to contact the Merced Sheriff’s Detective’s Division at 385-7472.
