Knife attack results in prison term

A Snelling man has been sentenced to 11 years in prison for stabbing the mother of his estranged girlfriend.

Omar Hernandez, 22, was convicted on Oct. 27 in Stanislaus County Superior Court of attempted murder, having committed great bodily injury, and assault with a deadly weapon.On Dec. 14, 2007, Hernandez confronted his estranged girlfriend at her home in Crows Landing. During the confrontation, the mother of the estranged girlfriend came out of her home to check on her daughter. Hernandez then took a knife and stabbed the mother in the stomach and arm. A second person confronted Hernandez and he tried to stab that person before second fleeing the scene.
