Turlock tennis moves into semis

Maecie Ireland and the Turlock High girls tennis team will play against five-time defending champion St. Francis High today in the semifinals of the Sac-Joaquin Section Division I Tournament.

Once again, the Turlock High girls tennis team showed its depth in the Sac-Joaquin Section Division I Tournament. The players on the lower half of the strength ladder came through in the Bulldogs’ quarterfinal home matchup with West High on Monday afternoon to give them a 5-4 win and a bittersweet prize.Turlock, which is the top team in the Central California Conference, will travel to Sacramento today for the semifinal matchup with St. Francis, the Delta River League and five-time defending Section champion.The match is scheduled for 2 p.m.On Monday, Turlock’s top four singles players faltered in their matches but the rest of the strength ladder prevailed.No. 4 Karsen Melgard and No. 5 Natalia Lima finished the day with victories, while all three Turlock doubles teams of Camille Stiles and Taylor Olson, Jillian Temple and Lizete Duarte and Katrina Santiago and Jenna Anderson all finished off their opponents.Last week, the Bulldogs beat Modesto 6-3 after their top three singles players lost their matches and the rest of the team pulled through.
