Arrests made in fatal drive-by shooting

POSTED July 31, 2009 11:13 p.m.
The Stanislaus County Sheriff’s Department has arrested three suspects in connection with a drive-by shooting that killed one man.
The victim, Alberto Schopp, 23, of Modesto was fatally shot in a drive-by shooting Wednesday night in the 600 block of Broadway Avenue in Modesto.
Schopp was found laying next to his Chevrolet Caprice when deputies arrived and was pronounced dead at the scene, according to the sheriff’s department.
Witnesses at the scene described the suspect vehicle as a green Ford Explorer and, through their information, deputies were able to track the vehicle to a Ceres address.
On Thursday detectives a 17-year-old boy at the Ceres residence was taken into custody in connection with the fatal shooting, said Sheriff’s Capt. Tim Beck. He was booked into Juvenile Hall on suspicion of homicide.
Later that same morning, detectives arrested Ulises Carenas Sanchez, 19, of Modesto, while driving in west Modesto. The third suspect was located in the 600 block of Alturas in Modesto. The Stanislaus County Sheriff’s SWAT team arrested Rafael Lopez-Camacho, 22, of Modesto.
Both Sanchez and Camacho were booked into Stanislaus County Jail on suspicion of homicide.
Beck said detectives believe they have everyone they were looking for in-custody for this murder.
