Turlock couple tied up, robbed at gunpoint

POSTED December 4, 2010 12:09 a.m.

An elderly married couple were the victims of what appears to be a random home invasion robbery that occurred in Turlock Friday afternoon.

The husband and wife, who are both in their 60s, were tied up at gunpoint while three men rummaged through their belongings, said Turlock Police Lt. Steven Williams.

The robbery was reported around 4 p.m. Friday in the 600 block of Newcomb Avenue. The husband was able to free himself from the plastic zip ties used to bind him and his wife and ran to a neighbor’s house to call the police.

The couple told the police that three Hispanic men in their 20s kicked in their front door. The suspects, one of which was armed with a handgun, tied up the couple and proceeded to search through the house, taking an undisclosed number of items.

Williams said there was no obvious signs as to why the couple was targeted and the selection seemed to be made at random.

The three suspects fled in a red four-door vehicle.

Anyone with information about the robbery is asked to contact the police department at 668-5550 or Crime Stoppers at 521-4636. Callers to Crime Stoppers can remain anonymous and may be eligible for a cash reward.
