Warriors basketball teams take on separate challenges

POSTED December 7, 2010 10:01 p.m.

Before the Cal State Stanislaus women’s basketball team continues California Collegiate Athletic Association play, the Warriors will throw themselves into a two-day challenge known as the CCAA/PacWest Challenge at San Francisco State.

Their first tournament is against Notre Dame de Namur on Friday at 5:30 p.m., followed by a showdown with 8-1 Grand Canyon on Saturday at 4:30 p.m. After that, the Warriors won’t play again until Dec. 30, when the CCAA restarts.

Stanislaus is 3-3 overall and coming off a 2-0 weekend in the CCAA, with tight wins over Sonoma State and Humboldt State. In those games, Andreanna Marshall completed two career nights, combining for 47 points. Teammate Katie Busi had a well-rounded effort during that stretch to finish with 39 points, 18 rebounds, four assists, four steals and two blocks, while freshman standout Lauren Godde had a career-high 15 rebounds on Dec. 4 against Humboldt State.

On Friday, the Warriors will go up against a 1-4 Notre Dame de Namur team before taking on Grand Canyon, ranked at No. 21 in the USA Today/ESPN Division II Top 25 coaches poll. For the latter team, Samantha Murphy leads Grand Canyon by averaging 26.6 points.

The Warriors look to win their third game in three tries at Chico State today at 7 p.m. Then on Saturday, they’ll face Division I competition in the University of Pacific at 7 p.m., before hosting Cal Baptist on Dec. 18.

Stanislaus is 2-3 overall and 1-2 in the CCAA.
