We need health care for everyone

POSTED August 4, 2009 10:35 p.m.
Dear Editor:
Health care has been of great significance to me throughout the entirety of my life. Due to a heart condition, as well as lung problems, I require relatively extensive health care. However, I am one of the nearly 46 million Americans who currently do not have health insurance. Many people, ranging from political pundits to the average citizen, argue that the president’s plan for health care reform is a poor idea. From what I have seen, this point of view has been argued, and reinforced, by deception and untruths.
President Obama has stated over and over again what his true intentions are. The president is trying to provide a public health care option for those, like myself, that simply cannot afford to buy into the private bureaucracy that is the HMO monopoly. I cannot speak for anyone else, but I certainly trust President Obama more than any health insurance company executive, whose priorities consist of making money, instead of taking care of people. Premiums continue to rise, resulting in more and more Americans without health insurance.
Personally, I have not seen a cardiologist in over a year, and I can only hope my heart is doing well. The last time I went an extended period of time without cardiology checkups, my heart indeed began to fail again. Those in Congress opposed to the president's health care reform bill have government run, world class health care plans. These are the same plans President Obama has promised to regular citizens. These Congressmen and women need not worry if their health is deteriorating without their knowledge. Most of the opposition to health care reform can afford to keep their stubborn pride and not stand with OUR president in support of much needed health care reform. However, I cannot, and I am only one of millions in America who are facing this same, absolutely terrifying predicament.
