Class makes dresses for Salvation Army

Pitman High School students in Anne Cornell's fashion and design class show off the dresses they made to give to the Salvation Army.

POSTED December 21, 2010 10:41 p.m.

Pitman High School students in Anne Cornell’s fashion and design class learned the value of community service this semester. Thirty-six students sewed 30 little girls’ Christmas dresses and donated them to the Salvation Army. Major Debi Shrum of the Salvation Army said the dresses will be distributed to families with young daughters during the holiday food distribution, and they would probably all be gone by the end of the week.

“Thank you all for doing this. A lot of these girls do not have new clothes and wouldn’t otherwise have a nice dress,” Shrum said to the students.

Cornell said her class has been donating Christmas and Easter dresses to the Salvation Army since Pitman High School opened. The Kiwanis Club of Turlock donates the fabric, which they buy from Cloth and Quilt for a special discounted price.
