County bus system begins fare changes

POSTED February 1, 2011 11:17 p.m.

Exact fare is no longer required for rides on Stanislaus Regional Transit busses, following the implementation of a new fare system on Monday.

Should a rider be owed change after depositing a fare, the automated, state-of-the art system dispenses an electronic change card. The amount on the change card can be used toward future StaRT fares, just like cash.

The following tickets, passes, and fare cards were introduced alongside the automated fareboxes on Monday:

·         A book of 20 General Fare tickets, each good for a one-way ride on StaRT Fixed Stop services (not including Route 70) for $22.50. Senior/Disabled 20 ride ticket books are available for $18, while Student books are available for $21.25;

·         $5 and $10 Fast Fare cards, usable on all StaRT services but not reloadable with additional money;

·         31-Day Passes, valid for unlimited rides on StaRT Fixed Stop services, save Route 70, offer 31 consecutive days from the first day of use for $45; and

·         One-way Medivan passes, providing non-emergency public transportation to Bay Area Medical Centers, for $9. A Medivan attendant pass is available for $2.

Old tickets can still be used, but must be used as soon as possible.

New tickets are not available for purchase on the bus, but may be bought at the Modesto Transportation Center, Storer Transit Systems, Newman City Hall, Oakdale City Hall, Patterson City Hall, Riverbank City Hall, Turlock City Hall and Waterford City Hall. Student ride cards are available at the California State University, Stanislaus Student Union or the Modesto Junior College Business Services Office (East and West Campuses), with valid student ID.

 Tickets may also be purchased by mail or phone. Make checks payable to: Storer Transit Systems and mail to Storer Transit Systems, 1216 Doker Dr., Modesto, CA 95351, or call Visa or MasterCard orders in to (800) 262-1516.
