Warriors soccer to get ‘faster, bigger’ with recruiting class

POSTED February 18, 2011 8:37 p.m.

After having one of its best seasons in school history that included a run in the conference tournament, the Cal State Stanislaus women's soccer team announced Thursday the signing of one of the best and biggest recruiting classes ever.

“Today is a great day to be part of the Warrior nation,” coach Gabriel Bolton said. “This recruiting class is evidence of the tremendous momentum that has been building around Warrior soccer the past few years.”

Last season, Stanislaus advanced to the California Collegiate Athletic Association Tournament and finished with a 12-6-1 overall record. But with various changes to the roster, including losing four-year starter Kim DiNardo to graduation and goalkeeper Millie Brown to an injury retirement, the Warriors had to make a huge statement with this year’s recruiting class.

“We graduated players at every position,” Bolton noted. “Our goal was to continue to get faster, bigger, and more athletic without lowering the standard of soccer we play. We have accomplished that.”

The Warriors will bring in 16 players from across the Central Valley and beyond. The list includes Jessica Cervantes, a forward from St. Mary’s High of Stockton who’s also the sister of current Warrior Vanessa Cervantes.
