Bertram “Bert” Thal Stinson

August 1931 — August 2009

Bertram “Bert” Thal Stinson

POSTED August 12, 2009 11:27 a.m.
The family of Bertram “Bert” Thal Stinson invites friends to a visitation from 4 p.m. to 7 p.m. Aug. 13 and graveside services to be held at 11 a.m. Aug. 14 at the Denair Cemetery. Bert was born in 1931, and passed away peacefully in his sleep at home on Saturday. Bert was struggling with symptoms from ALS (Lou Gehrig’s disease). He was fortunate to pass before the disease completely took his independence. For that his family and friends are thankful. Bert spent most of his life in the Delhi Ballico Area.  He attended Ballico Elementary School, Livingston High School (class of 1949), and Cal Poly San Luis Obispo (class of 1953). He served in the US Army from 1954 to 1956.  For many years he was a self-employed almond farmer. He later became a truck driver and begrudgingly retired from that at 77 years old. In past years, he devoted time to the Delhi Little League, Delhi Volunteer Fire Dept., Delhi-Ballico Lions Club, and the Delhi School Board. He enjoyed fishing. Every summer he supplied home grown tomatoes to his friends in Delhi, Ballico and Waterford from his enormous garden.
Bert is survived by his wife of 45 years, Marlys (Harmon) Stinson; sons, Perry Stinson and Kirk James; daughter, Diane Stinson-Roberts; brother, Ivan Stinson; five grandchildren; and one great grandson.
He is preceded in death by son, Kelly Stinson.
Donations in Bert’s honor can be made to the Paralyzed Veterans of America, Bay Area and Western Chapter, 3801 Miranda Ave., Rm 816, Palo Alto, CA 94304, the ALS Association, Greater Bay Area, 565 Commercial St., 2nd Floor, San Francisco, CA 94111, or to an organization of the donor’s choice.
