Farrar’s triple-double leads Eagles in playoff victory

Turlock Christian's Kara Gabrielson (5) takes a shot during a 78-30 blowout win over Elliot Christian on Tuesday night in first round of the Sac-Joaquin Section Division V Tournament.

Turlock Christian High senior guard Molly Farrar understood the circumstances. Though her girls basketball team was favored to win the Sac-Joaquin Section Division V first-round game, she didn’t let that slip into her head.

That might help explain why she exploded for a triple-double in a 78-30 win over No. 14 Elliot Christian High — finishing with 15 points, 12 rebounds and 11 assists to lift the No. 3 Eagles to the quarterfinals.

Turlock Christian will return to its home court, Calvary Baptist Gym, on Thursday at 7 p.m. to play No. 11 Wilton Christian. And don’t be surprised if Farrar approaches the game the same way as she did Tuesday night.

“Being a senior, it could’ve been your last game,” Eagles coach Edwin Santiago said, “so you want to leave it all on the court and have no regrets. It could’ve been her last game. She came to play. She was focused.”

So were her teammates.

Three other Turlock Christian players scored in double-figures, with Natalie Snyder recording a game-high 21 points. Kaisa Spycher and Rebekah Muller finished with 15 and 10, respectively.

After the first quarter, the Eagles (20-8 overall) only led by 17-13, thanks to Elliot Christian (12-14) knocking in three of its six 3-pointers in that period. But that’s when the Turlock Christian players began to effectively run the floor, finishing with a 43-19 halftime advantage before taking over in the final two quarters.

“We did an excellent moving the ball on the fast break,” Santiago said.
