The animal stalls are empty, the midway rides are gone, and the food vendors
have packed up and moved on. The Stanislaus County fair’s 10 day run ended on Aug. 9, and plans are already in motion for the 2010 fair.
The 2009 Stanislaus County Fair drew a bigger crowd than the fairgrounds has seen in 15 years. Over 227,200 visitors attended the fair, according to Stanislaus County Fair officials. The fair saw its highest attendance on the final Saturday of its run, Aug. 8.
Many of those Saturday guests rode the courtesy shuttle from the Park n’ Ride lots at Pitman High School and California State University, Stanislaus.  Over 10,200 guests took the free bus ride to the fair. This was the first year the Stanislaus County Fair offered the Park n’ Ride service. Tony Leo, chief executive officer of the Stanislaus County Fair, expressed his gratitude to the schools for offering their parking lots.
“The new Park N’ Ride program was a success from the moment the first passenger boarded,” Leo said.
Pennie Rorex, director of communications for the Stanislaus County Fair, said that it was too soon to tell if they would be offering the shuttle again next year.
Of the 2,294 animals exhibited by FFA and 4-H members, 693 were sold at the Junior Live Stock Auction. Together the sale grossed $557,674. Exhibitors sold 100 heifers at the 42nd Annual Replacement Heifer Sale for a combined total of $235,675.
The theme for the 2010 Stanislaus County Fair will be “Flavors of the Valley.” The theme is intended to highlight food products that are processed in the Central Valley. The 2010 Stanislaus County Fair dates have not been announced.
