New technology for Crime Stoppers

POSTED February 25, 2011 7:31 p.m.

The effort to curb crime in the community has a new tool in the arsenal.

The Stanislaus Area Crime Stoppers is launching the new TipSubmit Mobile app for iPhone. The app is the first anonymous and fully featured iPhone application that lets the public submit tips to law enforcement agencies to help solve and prevent crime.

Users of the free iPhone app may now submit secure and anonymous tips to Crime Stoppers programs and law enforcement agencies. Thousands of communities, schools and local, state and federal law enforcement agencies will be served by this application.

The new mobile application augments the existing TipSoft tools that allow the public to submit anonymous tips via phone, web and SMS Text-a-Tip. The iPhone app offers more powerful options than the existing SMS Text-a-Tip solution offers, allowing the public to easily auto-locate the nearest agency they can submit to or select one manually, said Carla Castro, the coordinator for the local Crime Stoppers program.

Tips submitted through the app may also include uploaded images and video, and even establish an anonymous ongoing two-way dialogue and real-time chat with the receiving agency.

There is no cost to the public to use this application and it will be released for additional mobile platforms in the coming months.

All tips received are encrypted and remain anonymous whether by text, web or telephone tip.  Callers can receive cash rewards for their information.

Stanislaus Area Crime Stopper serves all Law Enforcement Agencies in the Stanislaus area and wanted suspects in any city of Stanislaus County can be reported through the program.

To download the TipSoft application visit www.TipSoft.com or visit the iTunes store.
