Crime Stoppers donation, fundraiser

POSTED August 14, 2009 9:18 p.m.
The local Crime Stoppers received two donations from area businesses to go towards the organization’s reward program.
Allied Concrete and Supply and Protection One, Inc., each contributed $5,000 to the program. The $10,000 will be added to the organization’s coffers for use as rewards.
The program allows people to remain anonymous when providing tips about suspects wanted in a wide array of criminal incidents including murders, rapes and robberies.
The Crime Stoppers program provides a reward of up to $1,000 for information leading to the arrest of those involved in specific crimes and has paid almost $24,000 in rewards to date.
Crime Stoppers will also be holding a fundraiser with Federal Bureau of Investigations Special Agent George Piro as the keynote speaker.
In December 2003, Piro was selected as the team leader and lead interrogator for the FBI team responsible for the interrogation of Saddam Hussein. In 2006, Piro received the National Intelligence Medal of Achievement and is currently the assistant special agent in charge of the International Terrorism Branch at the Washington field office.
The event is set for 6 p.m. Oct. 26 at Larsa Hall at 2107 E. Monte Vista Ave. in Turlock. Tickets are $50 and includes a sit down dinner. A table of 10 can be reserved for $450. Tickets are available at Turlock Police Department, Modesto Police Department and the Stanislaus County Sheriff’s Department.
