POSTED March 15, 2011 8:33 p.m.

The Stanislaus County Sheriff’s Department is investigating a shooting of a man during a suspected break-in at a Patterson home used for a marijuana grow operation.

The victim was shot once in his upper body, said sheriff spokesman Sgt. Keith Rakoncza. He was transported to a Modesto hospital where he underwent surgery. He was listed in critical condition, according to the sheriff’s department.

The shooting was reported at 1:30 a.m. Monday in the 1400 block of Carly Creek in Patterson.

After finding the shooting victim, deputies discovered an indoor marijuana grow operation.

Witnesses told deputies four men wearing dark clothing and hoods were seen leaving the area around the time of the shooting.

Detectives are currently investigating the shooting and believe the incident may be related to the indoor marijuana grow.  If anyone has information regarding this shooting, please contact Detective Frank Soria at 525-7080.
