Schrier’s low score leads Warriors golf

POSTED March 15, 2011 8:42 p.m.

Teddy Schrier turned in a tournament-low 68 on Tuesday as the Cal State Stanislaus men's golf team finished second at the NDNU Argonauts Invitational.

Cal State Monterey Bay stayed hot as a group to win the event, hosted by Notre Dame de Namur University, at Poppy Ridge Golf Club just outside of Livermore.

Schrier, who had entered the day at two-over par after two rounds of play on Monday, shot a 68 to finish two-under 214 to place third individually. He helped the Warriors to the second lowest round score of the day with a 287, as the team finished nine strokes behind No. 12 CSUMB with an 870 total.

The Warriors, ranked 21st in the Collegiate Golf coaches' poll, was five better than No. 8 Sonoma State.
Schrier's 214 was his best tournament score this season. His third-place finish is also a team-best during the 2010-11 season.

Trevor Blair rebounded from a 76 round-two score to finish with a two-under 70 on Tuesday. He ended up with a 217 to finish tied for ninth. Two other Warriors also finished in the top 20 with J.T. Cockerill tied for 13th with a 221 and Gary Yoro called 224 in his first outing for 19th.

Brandon Taylor rounded out the Stanislaus scoring but his 82 on Tuesday was dropped as he finished with a 233.
Cal State Stanislaus travels to Albuquerque, N.M., for the Mustang Intercollegiate hosted by Western New Mexico next week. The tournament, to be played at the University of New Mexico's Championship Course, serves as a West Regional Championship preview.
