Warriors softball drops series to conference foe

POSTED March 22, 2011 10:35 p.m.

After a long and exhausting day, the Cal State Stanislaus softball team wrapped up its season series with Cal State San Bernardino on Saturday with two losses, 14-1 and 14-7, in a California Collegiate Athletic Association road doubleheader in Beaumont.

Due to bad weather, the Warriors and Coyotes were forced to relocate for their final two games and suffered hours of postponement. After the late-night finish, the Warriors are now 11-13 in the CCAA and 14-18 overall, now having lost four of their last six games.

San Bernardino improved to 21-13 overall, 13-11 in conference play.

In the first game, the Warriors were shut down after five innings and scored just one run on two hits. Sarah Locarnini led off with a walk and stole second base before advancing to third on a bunt by Missy Corral. Kiley

Mendez then hit a sacrifice fly to centerfield, allowing Locarnini to score.

But the Warriors couldn’t stop San Bernardino’s offensive explosion. The Coyotes collected 13 runs on nine hits in the third inning, more than enough to take the win early on.

And they continued their dominance in the nightcap, scoring nine runs on five hits in the third inning to build a 13-2 advantage. Stanislaus rallied in the fourth after Corral hit a three-run home run, but it was not enough for a comeback. Lauren Nagle batted 2-for-3 with one run and Brittney Rickles hit 1-for-3 with two runs batted in.

The Warriors return their softball field today to take on nonconference opponent Hawaii-Hilo, with first pitch at 1 p.m.
