Police officer arrested on drug, embezzlement charges

Anthony Trock

POSTED March 29, 2011 9:51 p.m.
The Modesto Police Department has arrested one of their own police officers on several felony charges following an internal investigation.

Anthony Trock, a four-year veteran of the department, was arrested for possession of a controlled substance, furnishing illegal drugs and embezzlement.  He was booked into the Stanislaus County Jail and has been stripped of his law enforcement powers and placed on administrative leave, said MPD spokesperson Sgt. Rick Armendariz.

The arrest was made by MPD detectives.

An investigation into Trock’s alleged illegal activities was launched after the department’s Internal Affairs Unit received a citizen complaint alleging misconduct against the officer.  The Internal Affairs investigation quickly revealed possible criminal violations, which led to a criminal investigation by Modesto Police criminal investigators. Through the criminal investigation, detectives discovered on several occasions Trock seized illegal drugs from individuals he contacted while in the performance of his law enforcement duties and failed to book the evidence, Armendariz said.

On at least one occasion Trock gave marijuana he had seized to an adult individual, according to the police department.

“I am deeply disappointed in the conduct of Anthony Trock,” said Modesto Police Chief Michael Harden. “Anytime a police officer violates the public’s trust, it brings disgrace to the organization and law enforcement profession. Police officers are not above the law and we will vigorously investigate those who break the law and violate the public’s trust.

“The Modesto Police Department is full of honest and hardworking men and women dedicated to serving the public and keeping the community safe,” Harden said. “Although Trock’s actions are very disturbing, his conduct does not reflect the overall commitment and values of the Modesto Police Department, or the law enforcement professional as a whole.”
