Warriors golf wraps up road trip, finishes 7th at tourney

The Cal State Stanislaus men's golf team is probably looking forward to a week off and being at home for a tournament after the current trip. The Warriors finished seventh at the Grand Canyon Thunderbird Invitational in Phoenix on Tuesday.

Trevor Blair and Teddy Schrier led the Warriors, both finished tied for 15th, with 220 tournament scores. Host Grand Canyon ran away from the field on Tuesday with a low round of 288 to win the event. Top ranked Chico State finished second, eight shots behind the 'Lopes of GCU.

Dixie State was third with an 880, followed by No. 2 ranked Western Washington (881).
Grand Canyon's Matt Pridey and Jacob Golembiewski tied for first with 213 with Pridey winning the playoff to win individual medalist honors.

The Warriors were coming off two long road trips with tournaments in Albuquerque, N.M. and the current tournament at the Wingwam Golf Course in Phoenix.

No. 19 Cal State Stanislaus has a bye-week next week before hosting its lone home tournament, the Hanny Stanislaus Invitational, on April 10-12. The following week, the Warriors will participate in the CCAA Championships in Paso Robles on April 17-19.

 

Stueve’s efforts land league honor 

Cal State Stanislaus right-hander Andew Stueve has been named the California Collegiate Athletic Association (CCAA) Pitcher of the Week for the week of Mar. 21-27, it was announced on Monday.

Stueve, a senior from Empire, Calif., tossed his first complete-game of the season as he scattered eight hits in registering a 7-1 victory at Cal State Monterey Bay on Sunday. In nine innings, he allowed one run, walked one and struck out seven to improve to 3-1 on the season.

Cal State Stanislaus concludes its four-game series at Cal State Monterey Bay on Monday with 6-0 and 2-1 wins.
