Dana Taylor, who took the Oregon State men’s soccer team to national prominence with two NCAA Division I Championship appearances while producing 50 all-conference players and a number of All-Americans, will try his luck in Turlock.
Cal State Stanislaus announced Friday that Taylor will take over as the new men’s soccer coach. And the Warriors understand the importance of hiring someone like Taylor, who compiled a record of 79-98-14 in 10 seasons with the Beavers, who participate in the highly competitive Pac-10.
“We are very excited about bringing a Pac-10 coach to our men’s soccer program,” CSUS athletic director Milton Richards said, “especially one of Dana’s caliber with such a dynamic record of achievements.”
Taylor directed the Beavers to two postseason appearances and a top 10 national ranking, as his 2002 team won a school-record 13 games in making the NCAA Tournament for the first time. That year, he earned co-coach of the year honors in the Pac-10.
In 2003, he also guided Oregon State to the NCAA Men’s College Cup and another 13-win season.
After announcing his resignation Wednesday, Taylor said in a news release, “I want to thank (athletic director) Bob De Carolis and the entire Oregon State athletic department for an incredible opportunity and 10 great years. I also want to thank my current team and the players who have come through the program. They have developed the men’s soccer program and have touched the lives of me and my family in ways they cannot imagine.”
