Brandon Rogers, a 6-foot-5 guard who averaged 28 points for the Turlock Christian High boys basketball team last season, has signed a letter of intent to play at Mayville State University — a NAIA school in North Dakota — starting next fall.

At Turlock Christian, Rogers also dished out four assists a game to help him earn back-to-back all-Southern League honors, in addition to being named his team’s MVP the past three seasons.

His 28-point average was fifth-best in the state.

“I'm excited to play at Mayville State,” Rogers said in a statement. “I want to play in a competitive basketball program and help the team with its winning tradition.”

Mayville State has advanced to the NAIA II National Tournament during three of the past seven seasons. In the 2006-07 campaign, the Comets became the only men’s basketball team in North Dakota history to play for a national championship.

Mayville State coach Justin Johnson noticed the potential of Rogers, who is the son of Christopher and Nicole Rogers.

“Brandon is an extremely gifted basketball player and an incredible young man,” Johnson said in a statement. “We are very fortunate to have him in our program. Brandon clearly has a passion for the game of basketball and will do whatever it takes to keep his game moving to the next level. Brandon has a very bright future ahead of him and we are looking forward to seeing him thrive over the next four years.”
