Hilmar grad couple wins from World Series

POSTED May 27, 2011 9:26 p.m.

Stesha Brazil and her University of Houston softball team is in a tight spot. If the Cougars don't win both of their games today in the NCAA Stillwater Super Regional against Oklahoma State, the Cougars' season - along with their hopes of reaching the College World Series for the first time in program history - will end.
Brazil, a Hilmar High graduate, has been along for the ride from the beginning.
She's the Cougars' freshman first baseman who has all 54 games so far with a batting average of .221 with 33 hits and four home runs. Her Houston team (43-17 overall) will look to stay alive against an Oklahoma State team that is ranked in the top 25 nationally, one that beat the Cougars 1-0 in the Super Regional opener in Houston on Friday.
The first pitch of Game 2 is scheduled for 10:35 a.m. today and will be broadcast on ESPNU and ESPN3.com, as the third game - if it is needed - will begin no later than 1:05 p.m.
