Gratton School receives garden grant

POSTED May 31, 2011 6:53 p.m.

The California Fertilizer Foundation will be presenting a $1,200 school garden grant to Gratton School. The grant will help improve an already existing garden at the school.
The presentation will take place at 10 a.m. Thursday at the school, 4500 S. Gratton Rd., in Denair. Several local dignitaries have been invited to the special event, including state Sen. Tom Berryhill and Assemblywoman Kristin Olsen, who represent the district in which the school belongs.
Each year the foundation awards grants to 24 schools that either have existing student gardens or have an interest in creating them. In the first round of grants this year, 12 schools will receive $1,200 each.
Schools interested in applying for future garden grant funds are invited to visit www.calfertilizer.org for the necessary information and application details.
