Business students make $2,644 out of lemons

California State University, Stanislaus Introduction to Business students recently learned that when life gives you lemons you make lemonade. The students squeezed out $2,644.55 for The Salvation Army Turlock in a lemonade sales contest at the Save Mart supermarket.

CSU mentors make a difference in local youth

Matthew Wallace is graduating from California State University, Stanislaus in just a matter of weeks. But as a young man growing up it was unlikely he would have made it this far. He did time in juvenile hall, but eventually he turned his life around thanks to caring adults and his own drive. Now, Wallace is playing a role in a troubled young person's life, a fifth-grader who comes from a home in turmoil that includes poverty and close family members serving prison time.

Marc Klaas returns to Turlock for 2nd annual safety fair

Last weekend my three small children held a campout in our backyard with a few of the neighborhood kids. While preparing for bed time I was thinking it would be totally safe - our yard is fenced and I left our family dog outside. The only problem was that if any of the kids were to wake up crying for whatever reason my wife I would not be able hear them in our room, all the way on the other side of the house.

TJHS students question Congressman on politics, healthcare reform

U.S. Congressman Jeff Denham got more than he bargained for during a question and answer session with students from Turlock Junior High School. The local legislator visited the school to promote civic involvement and governmental awareness among the youth who will undoubtedly become voters when they reach legal age.

Just a senior in high school at the time she was hired on the spot as a bank teller. Now, nearly a decade later, she is an accounts manager with B of A.

TUSD charter school sees high school success; low K-6 enrollment in first year

The eCademy Charter at Crane opened at the beginning of the school year with high hopes and aspirations, and while it has not been easy launching the Turlock Unified School District's newest school, coordinator Manuel Cobarruvias said the year has been a success.
