Denham to grill high speed rail board

Rep. Jeff Denham, R-Turlock will lead a Congressional subcommittee hearing on Tuesday on the accountability of funds provided to the state's high speed rail project. Denham, who leads the House Subcommittee on Railroads, Pipelines and Hazardous Materials will be inviting half a dozen witnesses to the hearing.

Fireworks to light up Turlock night sky

In a little over a month's time, Americans all around the country will sink their toes in summer grass and look up into a night sky illuminated by fireworks. Turlockers will be doing no different at this year's free community fireworks show, scheduled to be held on July 4 at the Stanislaus County Fairgrounds.

House Ag Committee approves farm bill, good news for California farmers

The House Agriculture Committee approved the $940 billion farm bill on Wednesday, which will bring some relief to frustrated California growers. Working late into Wednesday night, the House passed the 576 page draft, with a 36-10 vote.

Thank you, Turlock

When I walked into the offices of the Turlock Journal I was expecting a hectic newsroom with people yelling across the office, papers flying, phone cords wrapping around computers as some frantic writer tries to write down notes from a phone interview that took six weeks to get. Much to my surprise, I was greeted with a friendly face, a quaint office and warm smiles from each one of my co workers. Honestly, it felt like home. Sure, it was a home I've only lived in for two days but sometimes things just feel right.
