Campaign signs tell us nothing

The forthcoming election has brought out many large and very bright signs for the candidates. Wouldn't it be nice if Turlock had an ordinance prohibiting the placement of signs before Oct. 1? While the signs make a point, they do not provide information on who the candidates are, their education, background, or their knowledge of the Ed-code of California. What about their positions on those issues not controlled by County and State Educational Codes and policies? And most important , what is the extent of their knowledge of educational finances?

Stumbling on good finds in odd places

About a decade ago I was cruising up a 130-mile long reservoir behind America's largest dam - Grand Coulee - built across the mighty Columbia River. The area around the reservoir is rural, but it's hardly the isolated wilderness of the Yukon. Local woman serves veterans through work with Ladies Auxiliary

Livingston resident Sue Wells can be seen at her local Ladies Auxiliary pancake breakfast cooking up a mean breakfast of fluffy pancakes or coordinating a Veteran's Day memorial celebration. She might seem like just an ordinary member of the Ladies Auxiliary club, but she is the California president of the Ladies Auxiliary to the Veterans of Foreign Wars.
