Turlock FFA receives top honor at national convention

This past week, Turlock High FFA was well represented at the 2017 National FFA Convention with nine American FFA Degree recipients and two students competing at the National Level in Leadership Development and Agri-science Fair Events.

Donald Elmer Wickstrom

Donald Elmer Wickstrom passed away on Tuesday October 31, 2017. Born on the family farm in Hilmar to Elmer and Esther Wickstrom, Don grew up with his younger siblings Marvin, Doris, and Jerry. He helped his father with the farm work, his mechanical skills showing up in his early life. He graduated from Hilmar High School in 1943.

Check Before You Burn starts 15th season

During winter, the largest source of particulate pollution comes from residential wood burning. To mitigate the negative effects of burning in Valley communities, every winter the Air District issues a daily wood-burning status by county. The Check Before You Burn program runs Nov. 1 through the end of February.

Lions give back

The Denair Lions Club is working to get every kid in the community of Denair their very own bicycle. The club members collected 28 bikes and helmets for local children and distributed them through churches and directly to families in need.
