Foster Farms seeks local singer for college bowl game

Last year, Turlock teen Felisha Dias won the Foster Farms Bowl "Oh Say, Can You Sing?" contest and sung the national anthem in front of thousands of football fans, while also helping to deliver thousands of pounds of food for those in need. Foster Farms is once again looking for a local singing sensation to perform in front of 70,000 football fans before the Bowl game at Levi's Stadium on Dec. 27.

Mary “Rachel” Tovar

Rachel Tovar - Mom, Aunt, Grandma and friend - died peacefully at home of natural causes on Saturday, October 21, 2017. Rachel was born in the small town of Brawley, California in the spring of 1934. She was raised by her parents Ramon and Florentina Diaz along with her four sisters and two brothers. She married her husband, Adam Tovar, on January 02, 1951 before they eventually settled in Turlock, California and raised six children of their own. They were married for 52 years before Adam's death in 2003.

Robert “Bob” Holder

Robert "Bob" Holder was born on April 27, 1926 to Alfred "Dude" and Annie Holder in Oklahoma. He was one of nine children.

Library tax is money well spent

I read the letters regarding Measure 'S' - the measure that will support our public libraries for the next 12 years. Perhaps the persons writing against Measure 'S' has not considered the many public services we must tax to fund our common good: roads, police, fire protection, military, etc. A free public library is just as important as any of these - probably more so. Without equal access to free information for all we become subjects of the wealthy.

Jerry Lee Waller

Jerry Lee Waller of Denair, CA passed away peacefully at the age of 72 after a short battle with liver cancer. Jerry was born in Turlock, CA and grew up in Hilmar, CA on the Harry Waller & Sons Dairy at Faith Home and Williams Rds. milking 65 cows and farming the land. He attended Fairview Elementary School and graduated from Hilmar High School in 1962. Robert Dean Rider

Robert Dean Rider passed away at home at the age of 84. He was born and spent his childhood in Durango, Colorado and was involved in many school activities. In 4th grade, he was introduced to the trumpet. This would be the start of a lifetime of music making and a career teaching music, mostly in Millbrae Elementary School District.

Ceres man pleads guilty in murder of daughter
