A group of college students, a creepy cabin in a secluded forest, and an ancient Book of the Dead; what could possibly go wrong? Playhouse Merced is presenting "Evil Dead: the Musical," a blood-soaked, toe-tapping, demon-infested good time all wrapped up in a hilariously horrifying theatrical experience. Based on the cult classic film and its sequels, "Evil Dead: the Musical" combines the comedy, terror, and gore from the movies with a catchy musical score and a Splatter Zone for those who want an immersive experience.

City of Turlock free ‘shred it’ event

The City of Turlock is offering free document destruction services to Turlock residents Saturday. The event is being be held at the Turlock Regional Water Quality Control Facility located at 901 S. Walnut Rd. from 8 a.m. to noon or until the collection truck is full. The "Shred-It" event is part of a regional effort and one of four locations that shredding services will be offered throughout the county.

Born in Walt Hill, Nebraska to Leone and Guy Phillips, John lived 82 years healthy, happy and engaged in the present. It was only the last 10 months he ever had any health issues. John fought lymphoma with dignity and intention every step of the way. He always looked at the bright side of life even during treatments.
