Community supports athletes at inaugural basketball event

The First Annual Central Valley Senior Showcase not only highlighted the talents of local athletes Thursday night, but of the community at large. The inaugural event also showcased the community's pride and willingness to support its members as more than 700 spectators flooded into the Turlock High boys gym for the pair of exhibition games.

Former Bulldog ready to return to Bruins’ lineup

Last season should have been Kevin Kramer's third with the UCLA baseball team. The Turlock native and former Turlock Bulldog was supposed to be the Bruins' third baseman and one of their more consistent hitters. Instead, Kramer was forced to redshirt his junior year as he underwent shoulder surgery and had to watch as his team experienced a losing season with an overall record of 25-30-1 and a Pac-12 record of 12-18.

All Turlock High had to do to beat Atwater High on Thursday was show up to the Turlock Golf and Country Club with a complete team. With only four golfers, the Falcons were forced to forfeit to the Bulldogs in the third Central California Conference match of the season.

Missing pieces lead to loss for Delhi

It's not unheard of for a team to play with a person down due to injury, illness or other unforeseen circumstances. Playing with two holes in your starting lineup, however, is rare and hard to recover from, especially when the missing players fill important positions like third base and catcher.

Pitman pitches shutout in third straight game

Pitman High thoroughly beat Merced High on the baseball diamond Monday afternoon in the Pride's second Central California Conference game of the season. Four days removed from beating Golden Valley High 8-0, Pitman again pitched a shutout as they handed Merced its third consecutive loss by a score of 10-0.

Denair strikes out in late innings against Le Grand

Denair High came close to earning its first win of the season this week in a two-game showdown with Le Grand High on Wednesday and Friday, but late-inning slumps in both games instead led to a pair of defeats and extended the Coyote's record to 0-8.

Pitman overtakes Atwater by one match

It was a reversal of roles for Pitman High tennis when its boys hosted Atwater High on Thursday. Two days after losing to Golden Valley High 4-5, the Pride pulled off a one-match win of their own, 5-4, against the Falcons to bring their record in the Central California Conference to 1-1.

Delhi, Denair tennis staring down RC

The 2015 tennis season is shaping up to be a highly competitive one for Southern Athletic League teams, with Ripon Christian, Delhi and Denair High leading the pack. Hilmar golf suffers first TVL loss; still eying title

Just one day after placing fourth alongside Escalon High in the team standings of the 2015 Yellowjacket Invitational, Hilmar High suffered its first Trans Valley League loss at the hands of Ripon High on Tuesday. Despite beating Ripon by nearly 30 strokes on Monday, the 'Jackets found themselves on the losing end of a two-stroke game against the Indians, 237-235.

Pitman, Turlock swim programs jump into season with wins

The start to the Central California Conference swimming season was a success for both the girls and boys of Turlock High and Pitman High. With respective swim meets against Golden Valley High and Atwater High, the Bulldogs and Pride took the first step towards improving on last year efforts with convincing wins.

Turlock, Hilmar golf headed to league championships with sense of security

League championships for boys golf will be held on Monday for schools across the area. These tournaments are typically a place for teams to put in one final, solid performance in the hopes of qualifying for Divisionals as a team, but for Turlock and Hilmar High, its respective tournaments will instead be a formality as its boys have a ticket to Divisionals all but in the bag.

Four area athletes nominated for Outstanding Athlete Award

The Sportsmen of Stanislaus club has been recognizing athletic achievements in the form of the Outstanding Athlete Award for several decades, celebrating and rewarding athletes from Stanislaus County for their success and ability in their respective sports. Players, coaches, teams and community contributors from all over the county have had the honor to win an OAA award, and tonight, at the 48th annual OAA banquet, four athletes from Turlock have the opportunity to be added to that list.

Pitman softball chasing Merced

With only five games left in the Central California Conference season, Pitman High softball is on a mission to dethrone two-time defending CCC champs Merced High. The Pride continued their hunt for the Bears' first place position on Friday with a 10-1 home win against rival Turlock High, extending their league record to 9-6 and closing Merced's lead by only two games.

Turlock Wrestling places 11th at Reno Worlds

The Turlock Wrestling Club marked the end of the Folkstyle season with an 11th place team finish at last weekend's 2015 Flo Reno Worlds Championships. Eight of the club's 28 participating wrestlers placed fifth or better in their respective brackets, including Mason Ontiveros (60) who won gold in the 6U division.

Pitman snatches victory from Turlock

Pitman High hosted rival Turlock High Tuesday afternoon in the second cross-town soccer match of the season. The Bulldogs (7-2-1 CCC) entered the match on a five-game win streak and with a share of first place in the Central California Conference. The Pride (4-4-2 CCC) entered with third-place status in the CCC and the memory of their last meeting with Turlock, a 3-1 loss, fresh in their minds.

With the end of the regular season in sight, Turlock, Pitman and Hilmar High golf took a break from the Central California Conference and the Trans Valley League for non-league competition at the Pitman Invitational at the Diablo Grande Golf & Country Club in Patterson on Monday.

Turlock softball goes 2-3 at Napa

Turlock High softball started this season's Central California Conference campaign o the right foot, winning three of its first five league games after winning a total of only two league games last season. After back-to-back one-run wins against Merced and Buhach Colony High the Bulldogs hit a snag, however, as they skid into spring break with a pair of losses to Atwater and Golden Valley High.

Rage 16U wins big in Windy City

This year's 16U Rage Volleyball squad based out of Ripon - a true 15U team that placed second in last year's 14U Junior National Championships - won the Windy City Qualifier in Chicago last weekend with a 9-0 effort that included a straight-set finals win over the Texas Tornadoes.

Three 'Jackets take gold at MJC Invite

Hilmar High's track team is, as it has been for some time, on the small side this year. Not physically, but in overall numbers. There are roughly 40 athletes filling the overall roster, most of whom are young, which has made the 2015 hunt for the Trans Valley League title a non-issue for the Yellowjackets.
