The city of Turlock is well known for its wrestling programs. With teams at Turlock High, Pitman High, Dutcher Middle School, and Turlock Junior High, as well as a long-established youth program in the Turlock Youth Wrestling Club, many Turlockers have grown up with an affinity for the mat.

It was a matchup between top-tier and lower-tier Southern Athletic League teams Friday afternoon when 7th place Turlock Christian High hosted 2nd place Delhi High in a game that was originally scheduled to be played on Wednesday.

TC athletic director resigns

After two and a half years at Turlock Christian High, Shane Smith, former head football coach and current athletic director, is stepping away. Smith, who coached the Eagles during the 2011 and 2012 season before turning in his whistle for the athletic director position duties in 2013, has decided to resign at the end of this school year to accept a teaching and coaching position at Modesto Christian High at the beginning of the 2014 school year.

Pitman tops Turlock in late innings

Turlock and Pitman High softball teams marked the end of the first round of league play with an old fashioned rivalry game Tuesday afternoon. In the first cross-town matchup of the season, the Pride welcomed the Bulldogs to Arrowhead Field where the two waged a defensive battle for much of the game.

Eagles fall to Grizzlies

Turlock Christian High continued its uphill battle against its Southern Athletic League opponents when the Eagles softball team hosted Mariposa County High on Friday. Though the Lady Eagles showed signs of improvement against Waterford High a week ago-losing by only three runs as opposed to double digits-they were ultimately unable to overcome the Grizzlies as they lost 13-1 in five innings.

The Central California Conference met the Trans Valley League Wednesday afternoon when Hilmar High traveled to the Steve Feaver Aquatic Center to face off against Turlock High in a non-league swim meet.

The participants of the second annual County Clash Meet, between Stanislaus and Merced counties on March 29, were decided on Friday at the Stanislaus County Meet, which saw 60 local athletes make the top-eight cut of their respective events.

Hawks win first clash with Coyotes

Delhi High's softball team earned a much needed win over Southern Athletic League rival Denair High Friday afternoon to improve its league record to an even 1-1. Just two days after dropping a one-run loss to Mariposa High in the seventh inning, the Hawks beat back the Coyotes 7-2 to set up must-win matchup against Waterford High on Wednesday.

SAL teams at the starting line

Three local teams are preparing for the beginning of track season in the Southern Athletic League. Turlock Christian, Delhi, and Denair High have been conditioning and training their respective athletes for the past couple months with some in search of a SAL championship and others simply in search of competition.

Turlock High boys' tennis continued its unbeaten streak Tuesday afternoon with a 7-2 defeat of Golden Valley High - number two in the Central California Conference standings-to extend its record to 9-0 in the CCC.
