Turlock boxer wins national championship

Sandra Tovar began her amateur boxing career at the tender age of 10. Just four years later, she's now a national champion after her first place finish in the Junior Female 110 pound division at the Elite and Youth National Championships and Junior Open in Kansas City, Missouri on Friday.

Former Journal sports editor honored at namesake tourney

It's been 22 years since Frank Godinez passed away, leaving behind a legacy of exceptional sports reporting in the town of Turlock. Often referred to as "Mr. Bulldog" during his 15-year tenure with the Turlock Journal, Godinez was known for having his involvement with all levels of athletics, from Little League baseball to high school football, all the while focusing on the players and doing his best to make each athlete feel like a pro.

Super Bowl 50 has officially landed in the Bay Area, bringing with it droves of football fans and enough excitement and energy to power Levi's Stadium for the big game.
