Turlock, Pitman and Hilmar wrestling teams notch league wins

It was a successful day Wednesday for the wrestlers at Turlock, Pitman and Hilmar highs. The three teams won their first league duals against Merced, Atwater and Orestimba High, respectively.

Turlock’s back-to-back wins put them 2-0 in CCC

Turlock High's first league opponent was Buhach Colony High, one of the projected front runners for the CCC title this season. The Bulldogs faced the Thunder Wednesday night at home in a confidence building 62-56 win.

Therion Gregory bids Denair farewell

After 20 years at Denair High School Therion Gregory has retired. Gregory turned in his resignation in December and has since moved to Utah where he plans on finishing his education.

Stanislaus dominates Dominican in home victory

The men's basketball team at California State University, Stanislaus blew by Dominican University Thursday 82-68. The Warriors (7-2) were led by Reggie Jones who finished the game with 24 points, 17 of which came in the first quarter. Jones also recorded 10 rebounds against the Penguins (1-10) who surprised those in attendance with a competitive first half.

Vikings go 1-1 in Texas

In the first round of the Youth National Championship Tournament the Turlock Vikings were pitted against the Texas Wrecking Crew, an All-Star team twice their size. The majority of those who face the Wrecking Crew quit by halftime but Turlock stuck it out on Tuesday, doing their best to compete in the 30-0 loss.

Turlock Express: Indoor soccer at the professional level

Soccer fans rejoice; Turlock is now home to its first professional sports team, the Turlock Express. In their first year at the professional level the Express (6-3) are in second place of the Professional Arena Soccer League's Western Division and undefeated at home. Turlock will try and extend their perfect record at home Friday when they host the Tijuana Revolucion at the Turlock Indoor Soccer facility.

Local soccer talent named All American

Since graduating from Turlock High in 2010 and joining Modesto Junior College's women's soccer team Sara Latham has experienced a high degree of success. Last year she was named to the All Regional Team, last fall she was named Big 8 Conference Player of the Year and last week she was selected to the JC All-American Division III team.

CCC title up for grabs

I didn't know what to expect out of this year's basketball season; before December I hadn't watched a high school basketball game for at least four years. I did know that Turlock and Pitman would be in constant competition with each other for bragging rights and that Turlock, as defending CCC champions, would be the team to beat.

Youth football team prepares to compete in national tournament

For more than 20 years the Turlock Youth Football program has groomed young players and produced countless championship teams. Now, for the first time in TYF history, young Turlockers have the opportunity to showcase their skills at the national level when a hybrid 49er/Viking team travels to Dallas, Texas Christmas week to compete in the Youth National Championship Tournament.

Turlock records 19th straight dual win

Turlock High's wrestling team continued its streak of success Wednesday morning during a four-way dual that included Freedom High, Oak Ridge High and Central Catholic High. The Bulldogs (19-1) dominated the event that lasted well over four hours, defeating the Falcons 47-9, the Trojans 51-24 and the Raiders 48-17.

Pride take second in Ceres tourney

One of Pitman High's goals coming into this year's basketball season was to earn a first place tournament finish before league play began. After finishing 3rd in the Frank Godinez tournament the Pride's last shot at their short-term goal was the Ceres tournament, where they got off to a shaky start.
