Central Park gathering promotes unity over hate

Know Your Neighbor: Ryan Tribble

Ryan Tribble is a fourth-generation Turlocker, but many around town know him for the role he plays at Turlock High School teaching Psychology. After earning his Bachelor's Degree in the subject in Chico during the late 90's, Tribble worked at the Stanislaus Academy in the Excel Center teaching all subjects, while also substitute teaching throughout Turlock Unified School District. He joined the THS staff in 2004, and has continued teaching Turlock's students about the human mind ever since.

Remedial classes eliminated in new CSU policy

In a sweeping policy change issued by the California State University last week, incoming students who are found to be unprepared for college-level English and math will no longer be required to take traditional remedial classes before beginning their general education.

Know Your Neighbor: Harold George

Not only does Turlocker Harold George design and lead the creation of 209 Magazine as Creative Director at the Turlock Journal, but he also oversees the variety of other print and web products that the publication puts out. When he's not busy with that, George can often be found working on the multiple comics which he draws, like "I Hate My Kids" and "The Show."

Technology is key in TUSD classrooms

When Walnut Elementary School teacher Bret Sutterley began teaching in 1979, it was rare to find a computer in a home, let alone a classroom. Flash forward to 2017, however, and the fifth grade instructor has learned to incorporate technology into nearly every lesson, whether it be treating students to a video chat with a scientist that is half way across the country, or using a computer to create a multimedia presentation.

Sowing comfort one bear at a time

Just two weeks ago, 25 cuddly teddy bears served as stars of the Turlock Garden Club's blue ribbon-winning display in the Floriculture exhibit at the Stanislaus County Fair, but on Wednesday, the stuffed animals officially retired from the limelight when the club donated them to Jessica's House, where they will now serve as symbols of comfort for grieving children.

New health center opening met with applause, protest
