Stan State to host candidate forums

During the Fall 2016 election, students at Stanislaus State were inspired to bring political awareness back onto campus and reinitiate the school's Democratic Party Club, hosting a variety of events aimed at encouraging students to rock the vote. The students' political activism has continued into 2017 and over the next few weeks, candidates from both the local Congressional and statewide Gubernatorial races will convene at the university for three such events where they will answer questions, beginning first with a forum featuring those running to represent Congressional District 10.

Realtors are familiar with handing new home owners a shiny set of keys, but on Wednesday a group of agents from Turlock's Aspire Home Real Estate, Inc. visited Julien Elementary School to hand out not keys, but books to unlock knowledge to four lucky kindergarten classrooms.

Downtown dining structures face enforcement

Downtown Turlock is known for its wide selection of restaurants, many of which provide outdoor dining for customers allowing them to soak in the sights and sounds of the city while they enjoy a meal. The canopies, awnings and other outdoor seating arrangements of select downtown businesses will soon be in jeopardy, however, as the City of Turlock is taking a look at structures that are noncompliant with a new outdoor dining permit.

Cancer survivors celebrate hope at annual event

When Turlock resident Clora McCray's daughter was diagnosed with childhood leukemia as an infant, the three years of radiation appointments, doctor's office visits and illness that followed were full of heartbreak. Soon, however, there was joy, when it was found that Marjorie McCray was cancer-free.

All seemed to be going well for Assemblyman Adam Gray's water rights legislation, Assembly Bill 313, which in September received final approval on the last day of the legislative session – the next-to-last step toward becoming law – until Monday, when the bill was vetoed by Governor Jerry Brown.

She is responsible for managing the strategic planning and development for the District's communications, outreach, education and government affairs programs and initiatives. Reimers advocates on TID's behalf via several state and national professional organizations and she is involved in local organizations as well.
