Stanislaus State welcomes actors to spur voter registration

Students at Stanislaus State were star struck Wednesday as the university hosted actors Kendrick Sampson of "The Vampire Diaries," "Gracepoint," and "How to Get Away with Murder" and Max Carver from "Desperate House Wives," "Teen Wolf," and "The Leftovers" in an effort to encourage students to register to vote in the upcoming election.

Fifth grade students at Cunningham Elementary got a chance to display their float-building expertise on Wednesday when the school held its annual State Float Parade. Floats celebrating each of the nation's 50 states were marched throughout the campus, giving parents, teachers and others in attendance a chance to celebrate the approaching Memorial Day.

The Turlock High School senior remembers watching "The Guardian" as a child, marveling at the Coast Guard officer's bravery and ability in the water. As a swimmer and water polo player himself, Bradley hoped that he too could one day become a hero.

Father, son monster truck duo compete together for the first time

The 2016 Budweiser Monster Truck Spring Nationals are taking place this weekend at the Stanislaus County Fairgrounds, but for Jeff Souza of Denair, the event is especially significant. Souza has been actively participating in monster truck competitions for a few years now, but this weekend marks the first time that he will compete alongside his son, Hunter Souza.

Turlock feels the love

Local students recognized by school safety program

Not all heroes wear capes, or so the saying goes. In the case of Cunningham Elementary student Lidia Esquer and former Cunningham student Xiana Garza, heroes wear the bright, fluorescent vests of the Eagles Squadron – the safety program that allows fourth, fifth and sixth graders to help students navigate the school parking lot and surrounding crosswalks safely. The two sixth graders were honored Friday morning by AAA Northern California in a School Safety Patrol Program awards assembly for their outstanding safety skills.
