For the sixth straight year, the Stanislaus State Mathematics Grants department is hosting two camps in the coming weeks focused on keeping junior high and high school students' math skills in tip-top shape.

Turlock celebrates independence with annual parade, car show

Nearly 12,000 community members lined Main Street in Turlock on Monday as the city celebrated the nation's birthday with its annual Fourth of July Downtown Parade. Visitors saw a number of new sights in Turlock for the holiday, including the first time that a Stanislaus State president has participated in the parade and the revival of the car show.

Ellen N. Junn is well-versed when it comes to the realm of public education. Serving previously in positions of leadership at five different universities within the California State University system, Junn will now take the reigns as president of Stanislaus State, hoping to continue the legacy of student success that the school has created in recent years.

Monte Vista Crossings expansion underway

Turlock residents driving along Countryside Drive may have noticed the assemblage of buildings that are being constructed as part of the latest Monte Vista Crossings expansion. The final phases of development, Monte Vista Crossings South and Countryside at Tuolumne, will make local shoppers happy as over 80,000 square feet of retail will be added to the space.

Activities abound at local libraries in July

As temperatures in the Valley reach triple digits this month, the local public libraries are a perfect place to cool down and have fun. The Turlock, Denair and Keyes Libraries are offering a number of free programs this July, ranging from activities for small children to adventurous discussions for adults.

TUSD priorities finalized in LCAP

The Turlock Unified School District Board of Trustees approved the 2016-17 through 2018-19 Local Control Accountability Plan for the District and eCademy at their June 21 meeting, deciding where and how the school district plans to spend state funds over the next three years.

The Merced Community College Board of Trustees has begun the search for the next Superintendent/President of Merced College and is hoping that the community can help in more ways than one. The District has scheduled community forums for the public to attend, and is also asking community members to serve on the presidential search committee.

Survey shows California among worst states for small business

When it comes to small business friendliness, California is among the worst states in the country according to a recent survey by Thumbtack, which gave the Golden State a grade of F. In the fifth annual survey, more than 12,000 U.S. small businesses participated in the study, collectively grading each state on the government policies that affect their businesses.
