When he's not busy with that, George can often be found working on the multiple comics which he draws, like "I Hate My Kids" and "The Show."

Technology is key in TUSD classrooms

When Walnut Elementary School teacher Bret Sutterley began teaching in 1979, it was rare to find a computer in a home, let alone a classroom. Flash forward to 2017, however, and the fifth grade instructor has learned to incorporate technology into nearly every lesson, whether it be treating students to a video chat with a scientist that is half way across the country, or using a computer to create a multimedia presentation.

Sowing comfort one bear at a time

Just two weeks ago, 25 cuddly teddy bears served as stars of the Turlock Garden Club's blue ribbon-winning display in the Floriculture exhibit at the Stanislaus County Fair, but on Wednesday, the stuffed animals officially retired from the limelight when the club donated them to Jessica's House, where they will now serve as symbols of comfort for grieving children.

Wakefield Head Start project nearing completion

The year 2017 is one that has involved plenty of change for Wakefield Elementary School, and more is still to come. As Turlock Unified School District's improvements to the site's Head Start program inch closer and closer to completion, the Board of Trustees on Tuesday approved a bid for construction on the Wakefield Kindergarten Relocation Project, which is expected to begin within the next two weeks.

Local inventor’s newest creation teaches ins and outs of driving

When Turlocker Juan Pineda Sanchez noticed a disturbing trend of vehicular accidents among teenagers while reading the newspaper, the inventor and entrepreneur decided to take matters into his own hands. His latest invention, a board game called Driving Trivia, helps players learn the laws, rules and regulations of driver's education while having fun along the way.

Valley Vision seeks input on transportation, land use

Four years ago, the Stanislaus Council of Governments created a plan of action known as Valley Vision Stanislaus in order to make the roads less congested, jobs more available and air in the Central Valley much cleaner. It's now time to update the plan, and a series of workshops are being held next week to receive community input on what infrastructure improvements the area deems most necessary.

Denham legislation to expand teaching health centers

Congressman Jeff Denham has already introduced legislation to entice doctors to work in the Central Valley, and on Thursday he unveiled his newest bill aimed at expanding access to medical care within his 10th District by establishing more Teaching Health Center programs throughout the region.

TUSD addresses cyberbullying, suicide with video series

In the past, teachers had to worry about how to stop bullying in the classroom and on the playground, but now, there is an entire world online where students are free to message, post and stream whatever they want, whenever they want. To prevent bullying on the world wide web, Turlock Unified School District is working to develop a series of videos which address cyberbullying, digital footprint, internet safety and suicide, connecting students to resources and raise awareness of acceptable online behavior.

TID making progress on site expansion

After purchasing the former Turlock Police Department facility in 2015, construction on the property which will bring new, conveniently-located Water Distribution and Power Operation buildings to the Turlock Irrigation District's Palm Street Operations Complex is well underway, according to an update given to the Board of Directors Tuesday.
