VIETNAM VETERANS HONORED

Turlock Mayor Gary Soiseth and other area officials honored and thanked those who served and returned home and those who lost their lives in the Vietnam War during the city's Vietman Veteran's Day Memorial and Honor Service on Wednesday.

Turlock Express' Soccer Pals and special guest Turlock Mayor Gary Soiseth take a group photo after their certificate ceremony Monday. The program's six-week session is set up to pair the Express players and volunteers with children who have special needs for special classes and training in soccer.

Turlock Christian celebrates open house

The new elementary campus officially opened for school Jan. 4 of this year after being purchased last spring from the Medic Alert Foundation. "I want to thank the Medic Alert Foundation who worked helpfully and helped us negotiate a purchase of this building. They are excited for us being here," said Matt Swanson, chairman of the board for Turlock Christian. Swanson also thanked the City of Turlock for their help in quickly getting the campus completed. HONORING OUR VETERANS

Tom Hillsamer was honored for his service in the U.S. Navy during World War II with a pinning ceremony on Monday at Turlock Nursing and Rehabilitation Center. The Turlock resident was part of the gun crew of the Albert P. Ryder liberty ship that delivered cargo to troops in Europe and South America.

Purple for a cause

Turlockers painted their world purple on Saturday and brought cancer patients a little hope by raising $35,410 for the American Cancer Society through the annual Relay for Life event.

Hilmar walks for a cure

Businesses, nonprofit organizations and families donned purple and walked around Hilmar High's track on Saturday in an effort to raise awareness and funds for the American Cancer Society as part of Hilmar's Relay for Life event.

One flight dream made reality

Jack Bright was able to see his flight dream come true on Sunday thanks to Ageless Aviation Dreams Foundation and pilot Darryl Fisher. Ageless Aviation Dreams Foundation honors many senior citizens and veterans by giving Dream Flights in their restored Boeing Stearman that was once a trainer from World War II. The foundation owns three planes and travels the country in hopes of making dreams come true free of charge thanks to sponsors. Last year they provided 650 flights in 23 states.
