A funeral service will be held at 10 a.m. on Aug. 27 at the same location. Burial will be at Turlock Memorial Park. Knutson died at his residence in Turlock.

Lois Habel

A viewing for Lois Habel, 83, will be held from 9 a.m. to 11 a.m. on Aug. 25 at Turlock Memorial Park and Funeral Home, 425 North Soderquist Rd. Services will begin at 11 a.m. There will be a reception following the burial at the Club House at the Westfork Estates, 500 North Tully Rd., Turlock. Lois was an active member of the Shiloh Baptist Church and a life-long Christian. She is survived by her husband Carl; her daughters, Donna Bennett, Delores Delisle-Derrick and Loretta Corry; eight grandchildren; and 13 great grandchildren.

Valley air quality could be reclassified from ‘serious’ to ‘extreme’

On Friday, the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency proposed to grant the state of California's request to reclassify four areas due to the 1997 8-hour ozone air quality standard. The San Joaquin Valley area will be reclassified from serious to extreme; the South Coast area from severe to extreme; and both Coachella Valley and Sacramento Metro areas from serious to severe. Under the Clean Air Act, the EPA is required to grant a state's request to reclassify an ozone nonattainment area.

State to pay IOUs earlier than expected

Recipients of State-issued IOUs will be able to redeem them starting Sept. 4, instead of Oct. 2, following the Pooled Money Investment Board's unanimous vote Friday to set the earlier redemption date. State Treasurer Bill Lockyer chairs the PMIB, which also is comprised of the State Controller and State Director of Finance.
