Jose L. Melo, 81 of Snelling, died on Feb. 4 at his home in Snelling. Visitation will be held from 2 p.m. to 8 p.m. on Wednesday, Feb. 10 at Whitehurst, Norton and Dias Funeral Chapel, 286 W. Main Street. A Mass is scheduled for 10 a.m. on Thursday, Feb. 11 at Our Lady of Assumption Catholic Church, 2606 S. Walnut Street, Turlock. Rosary will be held at 7:30 p.m. on Wednesday, Feb. 10 at Whitehurst, Norton & Dias Funeral Service.
Edward Mayer, Jr., 96 of Turlock, passed away in his home at Paramount Court early Sunday morning. Ed's wife Rose (of 74 years) preceded him in death by less than four months. Mr. Mayer was born in Gilroy and grew up in an agricultural family. They lived and worked in rural areas of Northern California. After he and Rose married in 1935, Ed got into the furniture business. He worked for many years as furniture buyer for Redlicks Furniture in San Francisco. He retired in 1981 and they moved back to Turlock to get back closer to their roots.
Soledad Sosa, 76 of Westley, passed away on Sunday, with her family at her side. She was born in Tamazula, Durango, Mexico, to Everardo and Altagracia Sosa in 1933. Soledad has lived in the Westley area for 30 years. She enjoyed music, traveling, and socializing with family and friends. When needed, she gave a helping hand to anybody that needed help. Most of all, God and family were her life.
Angelina was born in Mexico to Evaristo and Leonor Aguilar in 1933. Her adoration was her Chihuahua "Lola" and "Kikin" her cat. She was a fun person to be around and told many stories. She liked all colors but not yellow in flowers. Angelina loved gardening, cooking and listening to music.
Wilma Irene Turner went to be with the Lord in her Heavenly home on Feb. 4. She entered this world on June 5, 1929, in Woodville, Oklahoma; The eldest child of Oliver and Pansy Hughes. Wilma married the love of her life, Paul, on Sept. 29, 1945. During their 64 years together they raised three boys, and pastored churches in California, Oregon, Washington, and Arizona.
Louise Casey, 67 of Merced, died Friday at Mercy Medical Center in Merced. Visitation was held on Tuesday. Funeral services will be held at 10 a.m. on Wednesday, Feb. 10 at Whitehurst, Norton & Dias Funeral Service, 286 West Main Street. Burial will take place at Lakewood Memorial Park.
Lila Hernandez, 85 of Livingston, died Jan. 28 at U.C. Davis Medical Center in Sacramento. Rosary will be held at 11 a.m. on Saturday, Feb. 13 at Whitehurst, Norton & Dias Funeral Service, 286 West Main Street. Burial will be private.
Gordon Miller Runner was born on Nov. 7, 1926 in Spokane, Washington, the seventh of twelve children. He is survived by his wife Roberta; his sisters Ellen Seaborn, Muriel Brown, Lila Lohman, Jean Bird, Thelma Reinhard, and Wilma Thompson; his brother Bruce; a daughter Rhonelle Pillsbury; a niece Charlene Worley; a grandson Glenn Gordon Pillsbury; and a large number of other nieces and nephews. His parents Bert and Eunice Runner moved their family to Delhi in 1934 where they raised almonds and grapes as primary crops. Jose Garcia, 99, of Ceres, passed on Feb. 2 in Modesto. He was born in Michoacan, Mexico to Juan and Maria Garcia in 1910. He lived in Ceres for the last six years. Jose enjoyed singing and taking care of family and friends in their time of need but, most of all, God and family were his life.
