Our beloved mother, Mozell McAbee, 94, passed on Sunday, Oct. 17 at Brandel Manor in Turlock. She passed from this life into eternity to "Sleep in Jesus" and awaits the resurrection of the dead according to the Bible in the Gospel of John 5:28, 29, I Thessalonians 4:13-18, I Corinthians 15:51-57 and Ecclesiastes 9:5, 6.
Emmaline Hamrick passed away surrounded by her loving family on Oct. 14, 2010, at Hy-Lond Convalescent Hospital in Modesto. Emmaline was born January 1918 in Marysville, Calif. to the late James and Goldie Shirtz. She lived in Modesto from 1952 till 1964, and then lived in Plumas County and Butte County until she moved to Turlock in 2002.
Loren Newell Wright went to be with his Lord and Savior Jesus Christ on Oct. 18, 2010. He was born in Redwood City, Calif. on Oct. 9, 1927. He lived in Hawaii in his early years and graduated from Hilmar High School in 1944.
Harvey Humphrey, 85, of Modesto, passed away at Evergreen Rehabilitation Care Center. He was one of 11 children born to Joseph and Bertha Humphrey in Rupert County, Ark. In the late 30s they moved to California. He joined the Army in 1943, and served in World War II. After the Army, Harvey added some college classes. He was an avid outdoorsman; he loved hunting and fishing. He was a member of the NRA and a former member of the VFW.
Melvin Wilson, Sr., 77, of Turlock, passed away at Emanuel Medical Center on Tuesday. He was born in Liberty County, S.C. to the late William H. and Lula Wilson. He grew up and attended school in Liberty County. In 1952, Melvin met his lifetime partner, Joy Williamson of San Francisco at the San Jose skating rink and they married the following year.
Terrence Eugene McSweeney, age 73, passed away at his home in Turlock on August 25th. Terry was born to Eugene and Bette McSweeney in Oakland, CA. Terry was a graduate of Hilmar High School and lived most of his life in Hilmar and Turlock. Terry had many friends and with his outgoing personality, made friends easily. He had a long career in the construction business, ultimately owning two successful construction firms in the area. Passed away in his sleep on August 23, 2014 at the age of 93. Gordon was born in Nebraska on October 8, 1920 to Martin and Sena Petersen. He was the oldest of ten children. When Gordon was seven years old the family moved to Montana where he lived until enlisting in the Army Air Corps in December 1941. Gordon's unit sailed on the Queen Mary to Australia in February, 1942. He attended radio school at Point Cook outside of Melbourne and then served in New Guinea for the remainder of World War II.
