Irene Lawton, 83, of Turlock, passed away at Brandel Manor after a short illness. She was born in Glenwood City, Wis. to George and Jenny Lacktorin. She was raised on a farm in Wisconsin and graduated from high school in Glenwood City. At age 23 she married Eugene Charles Johnson, who died in November 1958 after nine years of marriage. Ten years later she married Frank Lawton, who also preceded her in death in 1999.

After graduation from high school, Thomas enlisted in the Air Force and served in Vietnam. He was a decorated veteran from his military career. His numerous awards included the National Defense Award, Combat Service Award and the Vietnam Campaign Award. Burial will be at Turlock Memorial Park.

Rosa Amaral Belo

Mrs. Belo was born in Ribeira Seca, Sao Jorge, Azores to Manuel and Maria Amaral. She married Joao Nunes Belo in 1944. She moved her family to the United States and came to Livingston in 1967. She resided there until 1983, when she settled in Atwater. Recently, she lived with her son, Emanuel and daughter-in-law, Sonia who cared for her the last years of her life.

Grady Leon Baker

Grady Baker, 85, of Denair, passed away at Emanuel Medical Center on Saturday, May 8. He was born in Panama, Okla. to Jasper and Nora Baker in 1924. Grady was raised in Oklahoma, and at the age of 19, he moved to Dos Palos. He lived in the Merced/Dos Palos area until he settled in Denair in 1981. In his younger years, he was a bartender. For 50 years, Grady was a cowboy. He managed Ken Morrison Ranch in Denair for many years. He enjoyed horses and rodeos. Most of all, he loved his family.

Linda Halsey

Linda Halsey, 59, of Turlock, passed away in Modesto on May 6 at Memorial Medical Center. She was born in Ypsilanti, MI to Chris and Catherine Smith in 1950. Linda moved to California in 1980. She met Edward Halsey in 1981, and they married in 1984. They moved to Turlock in 1986. She owned and operated Reaching High Co-op, a learning center for children. Linda enjoyed Monterey Bay, kayaking, road trips, children, animals and gardening. She will be known for helping the needy, the elderly, single mothers, young couples and rescuing animals of all types.

Parkash Gill, 64, of Delhi, passed away at Memorial Medical Center on May 5. Parkash was born in India in 1946. In India, Parkash was a teacher and a block officer in the education system. She settled in Delhi in 2008. She was a member of the Livingston Sikh Temple. Parkash loved her grandchildren.

Ronald Lawrence Mea

Ronald Lawrence Mead, 75, of Ceres, passed away peacefully on Wednesday at Alexander Cohen Hospice House in Hughson. Mr. Mead was born September 1934 in Santa Ana, Calif. to Lawrence and Aldean Mead. He came to Turlock at the age of five, graduating in 1952 from Turlock High School. After he spent eight years in the National Guard, he became a rancher for 50 years. Paul C. Zakel, 91, passed away on May 1. He was born Feb. 23, 1919 in Los Molinos. He was the youngest child of Paul and Margaret Zakel. He had three sisters and two brothers.
