Owen Ford, 92, passed away at Emmanuel Hospital on June 30. He was born in Moody, Texas and was in the Army for 20 years. He was in the 5th Horse Calvary and served in George Patton at Ft. Clark, Texas and later under General MacArthur in the Pacific War. He then served in the Korean War. While stationed in Ft. Katherine Gonsalves Costa, 76, passed away peacefully on Wednesday, June 30 surrounded by her family and close friends. Katherine was born on Feb. 4, 1934 in Hawaii. She came to California n 1962, where she settled into the Bay Area and raised her family. She worked 35 years owning and operating small family grocery stores. Katherine moved to Turlock in 1998. Rev. Walter Harvey Frank, 95, went home to be with his Heavenly Father on July 4. He will be remembered as a faithful husband, loving father, and dedicated servant of the Lord whose kindness and warm sense of humor won him many friends around the globe. At the time of death, he was a resident at the Covenant Village in Turlock.
Irving "Sonny" Smith, 96, of Hughson, was born and raised on the Eastern Shore of Virginia. He served in World War II and in the Korean War, and retired from the New York City Police Department after a 24-year career. He was married to his wife Helen for 67 years and had four children, 10 grandchildren, and three great grandchildren.
Tiburcia Zavala Medina, 89, of Patterson, died on July 2. She was born in San Pedro, Puratiro, Michoacan, Mexico. She was a homemaker for 58 years, and she was a member of Sacred Heart Catholic Church of Patterson.
Catherine A. Peachee is survived by children, Peggy (Richey) Props of Colorade, Mike Peachee of Fresno and Karen (Delayne) Gehring of Madera; sisters, Mary Rodermal and Peggy Dougherty of Lemoore; seven grandchildren; 12 great grandchildren; and one great great grandchild.
Irma Katherine Farr (nee King), 87, died Thursday, July 1 in a Gallup, NM rest home. She was born in Dawt, Ozark County, Mo. and moved to California later in life. Mrs. Farr lived in Gustine for 25 years and attended schools in and around Kingsburg. She worked as a secretary to the chief of police and was a dispatcher for the Gustine Police and Fire Departments for 18 years. In 1986, Farr moved with her husband to New Mexico. She loved reading, music, her grandchildren and bird-watching.
Lisa Ann Santos, 27, died on June 13 in Imlay, Nev. She was born in Hattisburg, Miss. and moved to Hilmar in 1993. She graduated from Hilmar High and moved to Brentwood and got engaged to John Baumgartner.
Febia Aschwanden, 79, of Turlock, passed away on Sunday, June 27 at Acacia Park Nursing and Rehab. She was born in Arkadelphia, Ark. to Foster and Willie Moore. At an early age, her family moved to California to follow work that was available with the crops. In 1947, Febia married Ray Aschwanden, and they raised two children in the Turlock/Modesto area. She enjoyed camping, fishing, gardening and crocheting. Most of all, her family was her life.
Lou B. Schoonover, 97, of Turlock, was born on July 18, 1912 to Ernest and Chlora Clem in Amarillo, Texas. She lived in Kansas during her early years and attended Pratt Schools. She graduated from Pratt High School and married Orville Schoonover. She and her husband had a daughter and a son. Lou was widowed in May of 1993, just eight days before their 62nd wedding anniversary. Lou was a member of Denair Friends Church, an associate member of Friends Bible College (Barclay) in Haviland, Kansas, and a charter member of Mission Aviation Fellowship Foundation for many years.
Lorrayne Eleanor Stafford was born on June 24, 1917, and after 93 years of life, laughter and love, she left this world and returned to our Lord. Lorrayne grew up in Turlock and lived most of her life in Modesto with her husband of 56 years, Keary Edward Stafford. She was a lifelong member of the Modesto Covenant Church and was a member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars Auxiliary in Turlock.
