Marsha Mary Resor, 71, of Delhi, passed away Thursday afternoon peacefully at her residence surrounded by her family. Marsha was born in California in April 1939. She graduated from Sir Francis Drake High School in San Anselmo. She married Joseph Resor after she graduated from high school. They moved around the Bay Area before settling in Delhi in 1997. She enjoyed painting, knitting, and belonged to the First Southern Baptist Church in Denair.
Lillian S. Freitas, 97, of Turlock, passed away on July 26. She was a homemaker for 70 years and a member of Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Turlock. She enjoyed gardening, crotchet, embroidery and cooking. She gave many of her embroidery works to family and friends.
Ottis Cleo Hamner, 100, passed away on Wednesday, July 28 at Emanuel Medical Center in Turlock. He was born in 1910 in Illinois to Noah and Pearl Hamner. He moved to Orange County in 1921, before he settled in Denair in 1942. Ottis was a self-employed plumber and farmer for most of his adult life. He was a past board member of the Modesto Gospel Mission and Heartstone Bible Conference. He was a member of the Independent Fundamental Churches of America, and also worked in the AWANA program at the First Baptist Church in Ceres.
Ralph C. Bowland, 91, of Modesto, passed away July 13. He was born in Fair Grove, Mo., and after graduating from high school in 1936, his family moved to Turlock. He played in the minor leagues for the Chicago Cubs in 1940 and 1941.
Mark was born in Chicago, Ill. to James and Lorraine Long. The family moved to Long Beach in 1957, and then to Turlock in 1962. He lived in Ceres when he passed away at Memorial Medical Center in Modesto. He retired from the USDA in 2008, and enjoyed golfing and riding his motorcycle.
Paramjit Kaur, 50, of Ceres, tragically passed away July 20. She was born and raised in India and moved to Ceres less than two years ago. Her husband and son were planning to move here to join the family soon. She was a homemaker.
George Lucas, 85, of Ceres, passed away at Memorial Medical Center on July 19. He was born in Oklahoma in 1925 to Samuel and Sallie Lucas. His family moved to California when he was very young. He graduated from high school, married his lifelong companion, Lola Mae, and worked for 39 years as a refrigeration engineer at Merchants Refrigeration plant in Modesto.
Otto R. Zimmermann, 84, of Modesto, passed away at Alexander Cohen Hospice House after an extended illness. Otto was born in Lodi on June 3, 1926 to William and Anna Zimmermann. He lived most of his life in the Central Valley. After graduating from Lodi High School, he went on to study watchmaking and later, gemology. Otto graduated from the Strutz School of Watchmaking in Sacramento and became the first Certified Gemologist-Appraiser with the American Gem Society in the Central Valley. Jennie Houts, 97, of Turlock, passed away on Tuesday, July 20 at Emanuel Medical Center. She was born in Poplar Bluff, Mo. to James and Eva Buchanan in 1913. She married James Earl Houts in 1932, and they moved to Iowa in 1941. They moved to Santa Clara in 1959, and settled in Turlock in 1992. Jennie worked for Amway and Collegiate Manufacturing. She loved to travel, and she traveled to South Africa, England, Hawaii, and extensively throughout the continental United States with her motor home.
