Carl Zarcone, 99, of Gustine and long-time resident of Patterson, passed away peacefully Monday at Alexander Cohen Hospice House in Hughson with his wife, Jeanne, by his side. He was nine months short of his 100th birthday.
Virgil Dean Richberger, 89, passed away on Dec. 24, 2009, at Alexander Cohen Hospice House in Hughson. He was born in Oakland, Calif., the eighth of 12 children to parents William Richberger and Hazel Ross. Virgil graduated from Berkeley High School. He joined the Navy Seabees and served with the 38th CB during World War II on Kodiak and Adak Islands in Alaska.
Iva Erickson, 90, passed away at Covenant Village Care Center on Jan. 1. She was born in Holdrege, Neb. to Joseph and Teckla Johnson and graduated from Loomis High School in Loomis, Neb. in 1936. She married Herbert Raymond Erickson on Jan. 5, 1941, at Calvary Baptist Church in Turlock. They lived in the Bay Area (Berkeley, Oakland and Castro Valley) until 1974, when they returned to Turlock. Iva worked as an office administrator for CalFarm Insurance in Modesto until her retirement in 1984. She was a faithful member of Calvary Baptist Church in Turlock.
Lenore was born in the Windy City, Chicago, to parents Wright and Cleta Mae Butterbaugh. Oak Park, Ill. was her home through grade school and high school. She attended Manchester College in Indiana where she met her future husband, Gene Palsgrove. They were married June 1, 1946. After graduating from college in 1948, Lenore and Gene accepted a challenging assignment directing a community rehabilitation project in South Modesto. Daughters, Kathleen and Rebecca, arrived during this tenure.
Irene Velma Casey, 93, passed away with her family by her side. She is survived by her children, Gene Casey and Colleen Whitcomb, both of Hughson; brother, Alfred Black of Hughson; six grandchildren; and 17 great grandchildren.
Diana Lee Pfeil, 65, of Turlock, passed away unexpectedly at Emanuel Medical Center, with her family by her side. Diana has was born in Turlock and after moving away for some time she returned to Turlock, and resided here for the last 29 years.
Stewart Wells Bradley, 81, of Oakdale slipped away very early Christmas morning, at his Oakdale home after a very long illness. Stewart was born in Modesto on Aug. 11, 1928 to Owen and Adrienne Bradley. He was raised in Modesto and graduated from Modesto High School in February 1947.
On Jan. 1, 2010, Johnnie Lee Womack passed away suddenly in Merced. Mr. Womack was born and raised in Merced. He moved to Oklahoma and worked for an oil refining company for five years, until he was injured on the job. He then settled back to Merced, where he like to fish.
